Designer Joy Macdonell includes a special poem to add warmth to a baby shower scrapbook gift.

Macdonell says generic photos -- like this one of baby's feet -- can be downloaded and included in the album as a visual complement to the birth announcement. Later, if desired, the photograph can be replaced with one of the new baby.

With a little modification, this same idea works just as well for bridal shower albums.

Designer Joy Macdonell has a wonderful baby shower idea -- a scrapbook that includes photos of all the guests as well as warm wishes!

Here are some of Macdonell's tips for pulling the album together:

    • Select papers and embellishments that match the mood and theme of the shower. If the baby's gender is known, make the book feminine or masculine. If the gender is unknown, yellow and green are good gender-neutral color choices.

    • A small album works best. An album with pages that easily house one picture and short note per page is the best option. Tip: Keep the orientation of your album pages in mind when taking photos.

    • Help your guests overcome writer's block. Often, many guests are hesitant to write a personal note in their own handwriting for fear of ruining the page with crooked lines. If you're working with a top-loading album, consider running insert pages through your home printer -- or using a journaling template to create straight lines for each guest's note.

    • Save time at the shower. Create a decorated page and complementary photo page for each guest prior to the shower. Create a title page and back page ahead of time.

    • Take a photo of each guest, as well as a group shot.

    • After the shower. Have the photos developed and select which ones to include in the album. Place each photo on page that corresponds with the appropriate letter. After the album -- including embellishments -- is completed, present to the mother-to-be.
