Following the flock: the sheep on this page were the inspiration for the cotton-y lettering. To create the letters, Junge gently pulled cotton pieces over letters that were well-coated with adhesive.

Crimped letters are a rustic complement to the hiking theme of this page.

Heart punches were used to accent the letters and add to the whimsical mood of this page.

One way to add interest to lettering is by adding texture. Here, designer Tracy Junge shares a few ideas that will jazz up lettering.

    • First, Junge suggests running a die-cut letter through a Xyron sticker machine. After peeling protective film from top adhesive surface, attach cotton by simply pulling and rubbing small pieces across.

    • To create letters with both dimension and texture, first adhere a die-cut letter to a darker backing cut in the same shape (only slightly larger). After adhering, run the combined letter through a crimper. After being removed from the crimper, letters are often slightly distorted. Pull and straighten letter to reshape before applying to page.

    • A fresh, charming effect can be created with specialty hand punches. Here, Junge uses a heart punch to punch small accents onto letters. For more interest, Lange mounts the letter to a contrasting shade of paper or cardstock so that it shows through the punched shape on the top layer.
