Put your background in motion with this simple chalk and rubber stamping technique. Watch this video to learn more!

Creative artist Jill Miller combines rubber stamping and chalking to create motion on a sports-themed page.

    Materials:

    Chalks
Large cyclist stamp (or other sports stamp)
    White inkpad
    Sage green cardstock
    Eraser

    1. First, use sports stamp and white ink to stamp in a cascading pattern 4 times from upper left corner to lower right. Press stamp firmly against surface (figure A) -- stand if necessary -- then allow images to dry for a few minutes.

    2. Then, use fingers to rub 3 chalk colors across the stamped image (figure B ). Apply the first three colors, then apply another band of the second and first colors. (The colors will be repeated in the following pattern: 12321.) Repeat technique for remaining stamped images.

    3. Use eraser to remove chalk in long sweeping lines (figure C) to add movement to the stamped sports figure.

    4. Use craft knife to cut around a portion of each figure so that photo corners can be inserted (figure D).

    5. Finally, spray with acid-free fixative to set the background, then adhere matted photos and journaling card. For this example, Miller photocopied her journaling onto a clear transparency before adding it to the finished page (figure E).
