While it's impossible to include sports memorabilia in a scrapbook, photographing it can both document the season and provide a clever frame for other photos.

This technique isn't exclusively limited to sports -- it can be modified for any type of photograph. In this example, Gerbrandt uses a template to cut a portion of the frame opening, then trims around the flowers to create a silhouette at the left of the photo opening.

Michele Gerbrandt has discovered an easy way to add sports memorabilia to scrapbook pages: by taking a collage-style photo, then creating a special frame. She shares her technique with DIY Scrapbooking host Sandi Genovese.

    Materials:

Photograph of sports memorabilia arranged collage-style
    Small sports-themed photo
Oval cutter or templates with swivel blade knife
    Acid-free adhesive
    Craft knife
    Small scissors

    1. First, determine size of frame needed for the smaller photograph and find an oval cutter or template in the corresponding size.

    2. Place template over the memorabilia photograph (or use oval cutter) to cut an oval (figure A) from the photograph. If necessary, use small scissors to separate the oval from the surrounding background (figure B).

    3. Position smaller photograph under the larger memorabilia photo (figure C) so that it is centered in oval opening.

    4. Add to page, add additional journaling and titles to complete.
