Although this technique uses buttons, almost any type of small "shaker" material can be used.

This "Trim the Tree" page is a variation on the shaker title technique. It's a quicker alternative, because only one letter has been turned into a shaker.

Create shaker titles that are as cute as a button! Watch this video to learn the technique and start shakin'!

Designer Angie Randall creates a title both aesthetically and audibly pleasing!

    Materials:

2 shades of cardstock (one solid, one coordinating pattern)
Lettering template with large, open letters
    Craft knife
    Pencil
    Double-sided foam mounting tape
    Double-sided tape or adhesive
Buttons, confetti or other "shaker" material
    Clear page protector sheet

    1. First, cut both sheets of cardstock to the desired size for title.

    2. Next, use lettering template to trace letters backwards on back surface of solid colored cardstock.

    3. Then, still working on the back surface, use craft knife to cut letters (figure A) from the cardstock.

    4. Cut photo protector sheet to same size as cardstock. Adhere to back surface of the solid colored piece.

    5. Apply foam mounting tape to the outer edges of the cardstock and page protector (figure B). Layer tape to create the desired thickness (always keeping in mind the amount and thickness of the shaker material). Leave backing on the mounting tape.

    6. Then, add shaker material within the parameters of the tape (figure C).

    7. Remove backing from tape and add patterned cardstock (which will show through the clear window when added to the page). Carefully align the piece with the front piece and the acrylic before securing (figure D).

    8. Add the shaker title to page and complete page as desired.
