Randall created this page to pay homage to her husband's hobby (rock climbing) and attract him to hers (scrapbooking, of course). Randall borrowed chalk from his supplies to add a touch of authenticity to the page.

This page describes a wife's ordinary day made special by a surprise gift of flowers from her husband. The journaling cards include "he says" and "she says" sides -- so that both husband and wife can recant the tale from both perspectives.

The journaling on this page is actually a touching letter from a loving father to his newly-adopted daughter.

Angie Randall shares a few ideas for introducing men to the world of scrapbooking.

    • Journal and scrapbook his interests. Sports, a special hobby — even fatherhood — are great topics for scrapbook pages. To journal his enthusiasm for the subject, try interviewing him about his favorite subject, then create a journaling plaque featuring his exact words.

    • Encourage him to write. Sometimes, a layout simply requires the special touch that only a handwritten journaling square can provide. To make this easier for male scrapbookers, have them write a letter (which allows ideas to flow conversationally) or keep the journaling square very small. (Because men are often anxious about their handwriting, consider having him journal on the computer instead.)

    • Allow him to take the photos. You'll get a different perspective and get him involved indirectly.

    • Give him a chance to do layouts. Kits can often simplify this step for beginners by including complete color-coordinated layouts. While assistance might be needed for trimming and matting, allowing men to assemble the page themselves can often generate a great deal of pride.

    • Photograph him and his interests. Be sure to make the man in your life the "star" of several scrapbook pages. Even consider borrowing some of his "supplies" (i.e., creaft wire, mesh, washers, etc.) to create your layout.
