Learn the technique for creating a perfectly punched corner by watching this video.

Designer Sandy Laipply uses punches to maximum effect.

    • A punch was used to create a lacy border -- a perfect complement to this vintage photograph. Border punches usually are printed with a grid for easy alignment.

    • A heart punch was used to embellish both the edges of this envelope and the invitation (figure A), for a delicate, romantic effect.

    • Punches can be combined in clever ways to create new designs. Laipply uses a half-moon punch, with two 1/8" holes punched above it to create a "smiley face" design (figure B).

    • Handpunches can be used to create larger embellished areas (figure C). Multiple textures and colors are combined with different punches to create a visually-interesting effect.

    • A 3-in-1 punch creates 3 different effects and can be used for both negative and positive design effects. This snowflake page (figure D) is created by using both punched paper and the paper remnants, which are then applied to the page background.
