A pop-up page can reflect any theme or interest and easily be scaled to different scrapbook sizes.

    Note: Steps 1-8available using

Pop-up pages aren't just for children's storybooks -- they're perfect for adding an element of surprise and dimension to scrapbooks, too. Pop-up artist Tamara Sortman shows Scrapbooking host Michele Gerbrandt how to achieve a professional look.

    Materials:

    Cardstock
    Ruler
    Pencil
    Embossing stylus (optional)
    Adhesive
    Acid-free paper or scrapbook pages
    Stickers or mounting paper
    Embellishments
    Page protector
    Scissors or craft knife

    1. The base should measure 10-1/2 inches across the bottom, 7 inches in the middle, and 5-1/2 inches on each remaining side. Use ruler and pencil to draw the pop-up base (illustration, steps 1-8).

    2. Use a craft knife to cut out the shape of the base. Check placement of pop-up to see that it will fit within scrapbook perimeter when folded. Modify template for smaller books by trimming the outer edges and corner.

    3. Fold base in half.

    4. Cut notch at center of base to allow the pop-up to bridge two pages of the scrapbook layout.

    5. An embossing stylus can be used to mark fold lines, or the cardstock can be folded against the edge of ruler to score.

    6. While pop-up is folded, apply adhesive to the right side of mounting flap and attach to right page.

    7. Keeping pop-up folded, apply adhesive to left side of mounting flap. Pop-up should remain folded while pages are aligned and left page is folded over and adhered to the back of the pop-up.

    8. Open layout and embellish pop-up as desired. The base can be reinforced by the application of a border sticker or mounting paper. A page protector can be applied over the page by laying protector over the layout. Run fingernail over the base to mark and use scissors to trim along line. Slide protector onto page.
