Note: Steps 1-6 available using A wild wheel (figure A) creates an element of surprise on a scrapbook page as it turns to reveal each different photo. This technique is not only fun and exceptionally creative, it's also a space saver -- allowing a greater number of photographs to be included on a page, or even in a book. Scrapbooking host Michele Gerbrandt demonstrates this technique that will send your creativity spinning! Materials: 2 pieces of 12" x 12" cardstock or patterned paper Brass brad Clear, self-adhesive reinforcement labels or circles 6 photographs Acid-free adhesive Compass 3" diameter circle template Long ruler Pencil Journaling pen Scissors Optional materials: Craft knife Decorative accents Fine sandpaper Prep work: On one piece of cardstock, use a ruler to find the center point, then with a pencil lightly draw a cross. Gerbrandt says it's important to be exact when finding the center and drawing the cross. - Place point of compass on center point. Draw one 3 1/2-inch circle and one 10-inch circle. For the 3 1/2-inch circle, the compass tips should be 1 3/4 inches apart; for the 10-inch circle, the tips should be 5 inches apart (illustration, steps 1-6). Cut out 10-inch circle (this will become the wheel).
- Choose a template in an appropriate size for your photographs. Place the template so that the edge will touch the inner 3 1/2-inch circle on the wheel. Use craft knife to cut a small notch in the outer circle. This notch will make cutting out the circle much easier.
- Using scissors or the craft knife, cut the outer circle (for photograph) out and smooth rough edges with fine sandpaper if desired.
- Use template to cut photographs into circles (for a total of 6 photos).
- Using the second sheet of cardstock as a base page, place the compass on the center point to draw a 3 1/2-inch circle (as in step 1).
- Adhere photos to base page against the drawn edge of center circle. Place top and bottom photos first, then add the remaining four. Space photos evenly.
- Add wheel on top and secure with brass brad (a clear reinforcement label can be used to cover back of brad). Decorate page as desired.
