Stacy Julian shares an example of a materials file -- complete with a sketched diagram of the page framework.

Stacy Julian shares two tools that can get croppers started down the path to croppin' organization. Formula A formula is a body of information collected from your answers to a short set of questions. These answers help you determine the purpose and format of your theme album. Once it's completed, you can refer to it as you gather materials, design and create pages, and add updates in the future. (See Resouces section for a link to a free PDF formula card download). Materials File A materials file provides a place to hold photos and supplies before you begin creating your scrapbook. It's also a perfect place for storing your completed formula and additional information you plan to include as you update your album in the future. - Purchase a legal size hanging file folder or other organizational product to store your album supplies in.
- Answer all 9 of the formula questions (mentioned above) to help you plan your album.
- Purchase cardstock and pattern paper in your color scheme. It's a good idea to purchase extra sheets, to make sure you will have enough paper to update the same album at a later time.
- Attach swatches of your cardstock/pattern paper to the back of your formula card.
- Begin selecting and collecting additional elements and decorative accents that you will need to execute your plan, such as lettering templates, embellishments or journaling pens.
- Record manufacturer information, item numbers and colors of selected items on your formula card.
- Sketch your framework pages (title page, dedication page, table of contents and section pages -- if you need them -- filler pages and a closing page) on the back of your formula card.
- Select the photographs you want to place in this album and place in a page protector or small photo holder.
- Gather any notes, memorabilia, or other information (names, dates, historical data) that you will need to compile your album.
- Label this materials file with your album name and store with other files for album updates.
