Lettering is a quick and simple way to add interest to a plain scrapbook page, and -- as designer Suzanne McNeill points out -- is a great way to personalize a page full of stickers and embellishments. The key to success, McNeill says, is to have pens at hand with a variety of tip widths and angles.

    Let's Go to the Zoo!

    Materials:

    Yellow, purple and orange cardstock
    Deckle-edged scissors
    Glue
    Fine- and chisel-tip markers

    1. Trim yellow cardstock with deckle-edged scissors and glue to scrapbook page.

    2. Use deckle-edged scissors to trim outer edge of white cardstock to 1" smaller than yellow cardstock. Adhere white cardstock over the yellow.

    3. Trim photos and photo mats to size. Glue photos and mats together, then adhere both to scrapbook page.

    4. Use a pencil to add titles and journaling, then go over letters with green (or other color) chisel-tip marker at 45-degree angle.

    5. Outline letter (figure A) with green fine-tip marker, allow to dry. Later, fill in letters with yellow marker (figure B).
