When stitching all the materials together, be sure to stitch all the way around the die-cut opening, but don't extend the last stitch past the first.

After completing the card, add the recipe to the inside and add embellishments to the outside.

Designer Kate Childers demonstrates the assembly of a Quilt-a-Card® -- which can add dimension to a recipe album. The cards include a die-cut opening through which fabric will appear. The cards are embellished as desired, then adhered shut to cover the fabric and materials. A recipe in adhered to the inside of the folded card.

    Materials:

    Quilt-a-Card
    Fabric square (cut to 4" x 6")
    Embellishments
    Matted recipe
Sewing machine set for a zig-zag stitch
    Fiberfill batting (cut to 4" x 6")
    Scrap paper (cut to 4" x 6")

    1. Layer batting, then fabric square, over the scrap paper (which will act as a stabilizer when stitching the fabric to the card).

    2. Place card with front surface facing up on top of the paper, batting and fabric. Place so that raw fabric edges do not appear through the die-cut opening.

    3. Place the stack of materials under the presser foot of the sewing machine. Place card so presser foot is near the edge of the card opening. Carefully stitch around the die-cut opening, while holding fabric taut. When finished, remove card from sewing machine and cut any loose thread.

    4. Apply adhesive to outer edges of "wrong" side of flap. Fold flap over to hide stitching, then adhere closed.

    5. Add matted recipe to inside of card, then embellish outside of card as desired.

    6. Mount to album page. Add photos and complementary embellishments to the album page to complete.
