An ABC book is a terrific way to use the myriad of stencils you might have lying about. Here, designer Judy Joyce uses stencils to create an entire page that corresponds with the letter D, but can be adapted to any letter. Materials: Stencilability? stencils (Little One and 1" Bold Alphabet) Three 3/16" stencil brushes Spiral bound journal, approximately 8" x 6" Rubber stamp inkpads in yellow, green and red 7-1/2" x 6" piece of bright blue cardstock 4" x 5" piece of white cardstock Cardstock to complement photo or writing Gel pens in black, yellow and pink Small scissors Glue stick Photo or journaling Low-tack tape - Center stencil on white cardstock and secure with tape. Stencil duck using yellow ink (figure A), then lightly accent the outer edges of duck with red.
- Stencil a heart border in red. Carefully remove the stencil and wipe it clean, then turn and position to continue the border pattern. Tape in place and stencil as before, until border is completed (figure B). Remove and wipe clean between reverse applications.
- Position the "D" and secure with tape. Lightly stencil using green. With the letter stencil still in place, position heart stencil over the opening, and stencil a darker green heart over the letter (if desired).
- Cut along the border of the stenciled design, leaving a 1/8" edge. Use the black pen to make stitch lines that connect the hearts. Trace hearts using pink gel pen, then use the yellow gel pen to outline the "D".
- Randomly trace hearts onto the background of the blue paper using the pink gel pen, then glue the blue paper to the journal page. Position and glue the stenciled motif in place, leaving room for the addition of photo or writing.
- Attach photo or writing onto colored cardstock. Position and glue into place.
