Match the letter to the occupation ("A" for Astronaut, "B" for Baker), then create a paper doll to match. A dictionary or online guide can provide specific information about each career that can be included as part of the page layout.

A paper doll kit includes almost all of the pieces needed -- but don't be afraid to modify them to fit your needs.

Create a unique career book for your children. Watch this short video to see Ruth White's example.

Want to encourage your kids and send the message "you can grow up to be anything you want"? Try creating this ABC Career Book! Get the whole family involved in selecting a profession for each letter, as designer Ruth White did.

    Materials:

    Paperkins and Tracerkins
    Paper trimmer and detail scissors
    Decorative scissors
    Patterned paper and colored cardstock
    Two-way glue and photo splits
    Punches, stickers and pens

    1. Begin by planning a general layout -- one that will be used consistently throughout the album.

    2. Select a career beginning with each letter of the alphabet. Avoid overusing the obvious. For example, White decided against choosing "Doctor" for the letter "D" and instead chose "Director." Try to think of careers from all economic letters, as well as careers that aren't associated with a gender.

    3. Using sticker letters, mount each letter of the alphabet on a 1-1/4" white cardstock square, then mount the white square onto a 1-1/2" black cardstock square. Place each square on the top corner of each page.

    4. Use your dictionary -- or an online source -- to define each occupation. Print the definition on white cardstock, then mount the white cardstock to black. Set the definition aside until you have finished the page.

    5. Design each doll, or consider using a pre-packaged paper doll kit, modified as you desire. Utilize punches and scissors to add accents.

    6. Adhere doll, accents and each career definition to the corresponding page.
