Brads are both functional and decorative: here, the fasteners are used to embellish the edges of a pocket in which photos and mementos are housed.

Twistel is used for both the floral embellishments at the bottom of the page, as well as for the title. To create the flowers, the material was simply used in its twisted state. For the title, the material was flattened and used in the same manner as decorative paper.

Adhesive mesh (foreground) is the perfect complement to sports pages (note the basketball-themed page in the background) and is a great way to add background texture to titles.

Watch as Lisa Bearnson demonstrates how brads -- and other unique embellishments -- can add texture and dimension to any scrapbook page.

Lisa Bearnson of Creating Keepsakes magazine shares some of the latest innovations in scrapbooking tools and supplies.

    • Decorative brads. Brads -- once strictly functional -- now come in decorative shapes and a variety of sizes to dress-up a page while holding elements in place.

    • Twistel. Twisel is a twisted decorative paper yarn that can be used as a narrow string, or opened for a larger applications.

    • Tags. Paper price tags can be used as journaling or title cards -- even as mats for photos. Cardstock and paper can also be altered -- by cutting two corners off at an angle and punching a hole at the top through which decorative string or ribbon is added -- and adhered to the page. Tags can be stamped, chalked or embellished as desired.

    • Adhesive mesh. Adds texture to the page and is an excellent used to title strips. Simply apply a length of mesh to the page, then adhere sticker letters over the mesh to create a title.
