Stamped motifs and shades of metallic embossing powder are combined to create a multi-colored Mardi Gras mask. (The same technique was adapted and used to create other page embellishments -- like the checkered borders.)

    Figure C

Designer Dee Gruenig uses embossing powder to create a festive Mardi Gras page as colorful as the event itself!

    Materials:

Two dark colored 12" x 12" scrapbook pages
    Metallic ink pad
    Tight-weave, solid sponge
    Metallic gel pens
    Mardi Gras mask rubber stamp
    Metallic gold ink pad
    Tinselette embossing powder
    Scissors
    Embellishments

    1. Apply metallic ink to the sponge and apply a wide stripe of color (figure A) to the left side of the left page of the spread.

    2. Next, use metallic gel pens to apply freehand lines of color next to the wide stripe, alternating designs and colors.

    3. Then, turn mask stamp upright and press gold ink pad against it, coating stamp precisely.

    4. Press stamp against a small piece of dark cardstock.

    5. After stamping, begin applying embossing powder. Tap powder straight from the container onto the area where a particular color is desired (figure B). Remove excess by tilting the cardstock and allowing the powder to fall away. Continue applying the powder in this manner until the entire design is covered.

    6. Use a heat gun to set the powder (figure C), then use scissors to cut around the design and adhere to page. Repeat technique to make several.

    7. To complete the page, add title, journaling, photos and additional embellishments as desired.
