To see the impact "pop-out" journaling can add, watch this short video.

Lisa Bearnson of Creating Keepsakes magazine shares a few advanced techniques with host Sandi Genovese.

    • To eliminate lines on the edges of large letters, print letters directly from the computer. Use any layout or word processing program to print "mirrored images". By printing the letters backwards, they can be cut and turned over, without lines showing that normally occur with the use of stencils and templates.

    • Use rubber stamps to decorate die-cuts and create background effects. Stamp not only the background, but use a complementary or contrasting color to stamp within a lettering template or die to create page titles.

    • Add effects to journaling by "popping" words to create an entire sentence. This is called "pop-out" journaling. For best results, write a sentence that you would like to pop from the page. After journaling, enlarge the words you've selected to pop and adhere to the journaling card.

    • For a hand-stitched embellishment poke holes through the page surface before stitching the design. For buttons, sew thread through the holes, then glue the button to the page surface.
