To help senior croppers achieve perfect lettering, font cards and journaling templates are often included.

This "Taste of Charleston" page is just one example of a spread created completely from a kit.

While many senior citizens often have plenty of time to devote to scrapbooking, transportation might be an issue. The solution? Joining a scrapbooking club, which sends a kit of coordinated supplies each month. Here, Tricia Morris and DIY Scrapbooking host Sandi Genovese discuss the kits available to seniors.

Mail-order scrapbooking kits often include many (or all) of the following (although the combination may vary among kits):

    • Rubber stamps
    • Stencils
    • Paper selections
    • Metallic foil
    • Club newsletter and idea cards or instructions
    • Font cards
    • Die-cuts or stickers
    • Adhesives and/or fasteners
    • Journaling templates

    Taste of Charleston

Linda Sarine created this subtle layout using a kit with a Polynesian theme.

    Materials:

    Six 4" x 6" photos
    Paper trimmer
    12" x 12" scrapbook pages

    A scrapbook kit containing:
An assortment of 8-1/2" x 11" coordinating papers and mats
    8-1/2" x 11" foil print Journaling stencil
Fonts, markers and adhesive foam dots

    1. To get started, select the photos to be used for the 12" x 12" double page spread, and trim to 4" x 5-1/4".

    2. Next, select coordinating paper to be used. Cut the paper in half to produce one set of two pieces measuring 8-1/2" x 5-1/2". Cut sections in half again to produce four pieces measuring 5-1/2 x 4-1/4".

    3. Adhere the photos to coordinating mats.

    4. Use the font card and marker to trace desired title (in this case, "Taste of Charleston") onto a new shade of paper. Tip: A light box or window can make tracing easier.

    5. Trim, mat and mount the page title to the scrapbook page.

    6. Trim around embellishments on foil print (here, fish and pineapple are used) and adhere to page with adhesive foam dots.

    7. Finally, use the journaling stencil to make easy work of adding captions to photos.
