Instead of just adhering squares to the page, Eldenburg suggests using raffia, wire or mini clothespins to jazz up the presentation.

Turning title squares at different angles can freshen a page, while placing the title square at the side is an unexpected application.

This "Sunkissed" page title is created by layeing strips. The fun colors and whimsical placement echoes the theme presented by the photos.

Sometimes the same methods used over and again create a lackluster scrapbooking page. Here, designer Becky Eldenburg demonstrates her techniques for adding oomph to titles by using paper squares and strips.

    Materials:

12" x 12" solid paper (one sheet of black, and one sheet of white)
Scrappin' Strips (bright colors or pastels)
Fine point acid-free pen in black
    Adhesive
    Scissors
    Craft knife
    Ruler

    1. Remove 1/4" off all four sides of the white sheet, then center on black and adhere.

    2. Then, cut a 7-1/2" x 2" black mat. Next, cut a 7" x 1-1/2" black mat.

    3. From 1" x 12" strips, cut three 1-1/2" strips.

    4. Use remaining strips to cut two 1" x 3" of three different colors (for a total of six 3" strips in alternating colors. Adhere one of each 1" x 3" strips across the bottom of the page (figure A).

    5. Then, adhere 1-1/2" strips to back of smallest black mat, alternating color. When all strips are adhered, flip small mat and adhere to largest black mat (figure B).

    6. Then, print title on vellum (or use a preprinted title, like the "Sunkissed" title used by Eldenburg), then center and adhere to small black mat.

    7. To create side accents, layer three 3" strips to each side of the title. Embellish the top strip with accents to match the title or overall theme of the page (in this example, Eldenburg embellishes with squiggles to match the lettering in the preprinted title).

    8. Mat and place pictures on the page to complete.
