Start your engine! A teen's first car is a special life event deserving it's own scrapbook page. Watch this video to see Sandy Laipply's high-octane technique!

Sandy Laipply uses bright colors and hand-stitching to create a car-themed page with teen appeal!

    Materials:

a variety of 8-1/2" x 11" solid bright paper (turquoise, hot pink, lime green and purple)
metallic silver, white and black paper scraps
    personal trimmer
Fiskars Shape Cutter and templates (vacation, tags and circle)
    1/4" circle hand-held punch
    deckle-edge scissors
purple, green and bronze glitter gel pens
    white embroidery thread
    large-eyed needle

    1. Begin by trimming turquoise paper to 8-1/2" x 11.

    2. Next, cut a strip of the purple shade to 3-1/8" x 8-1/2" and attach to bottom of page.

    3. Then, cut a piece of lime green paper to 3-3/18" x 4-1/2" and align against the third bright sheets along the bottom of the page.

    4. Cut hot pink to 4-1/2" x 6-3/4" and attach to upper right hand corner of page (figure A).

    5. Using a 24" piece of embroidery and large-eyed needle, stitch across seams of colored squares (figure B). Stitch first hole, then tie a knot on back of page before continuing. Add thread and repeat as desired. Stitch slowly and carefully -- it will be difficult to go through several layers of paper.

    6. Crop all photos to desired size and mat on one of bright solids. Use deckle-edge scissors to trim the mat (figure C).

    7. Use template to cut car from lime green paper. Cut tires from the black scrap paper and windows from the white. Cut silver hubcaps using the smallest circle on the tag template, then punch with 1/4" circle punch. Assemble car on bottom right hand corner of page (figure D).

    8. Next, cut a tag from the purple paper. Cut a silver 1" circle. Hand cut the throat of the key and trim one side using deckle-edge scissors. Punch the circle with the 1/4" circle punch and assemble. Tie a short piece of embroidery thread to attach the key to the tag (figure E).

    9. Outline the tag with purple glitter pen, the car with the green and the tires with the bronze.

    10. Finally, add title to key tag and adhere photos to page.
