Vivian Peritts uses paper punches to create scrapbook pages with an heirloom look -- by selecting punches with the same shapes as quilt squares. Diamond Quilted Page Materials: Craft punches with quilt-block shapes (diamond, octagon, etc.) Small "slot" punch Patterned and solid paper Acid-free adhesive Thin, acid-free ribbon 12" x 12" scrapbook page Ruler and pencil - Begin by measuring across page every 1-1/2" across the horizontal edge. Mark lightly with pencil. Begin marking along vertical lines for placement of ribbon.
- Use small "slot" punch to punch small slots (figure A) to weave ribbon through. Tip: Turn punch upside down to see the registration and to punch precisely where you want.
- After all areas are punched, begin weaving ribbon up from the bottom through the top surface (figure B). Alternately weaving over and under the top surface. When finished, attach the ribbon to the back of the page.
- Mount photo to patterned paper.
- Begin punching quilt shapes (in this example, a diamond was used) and mount to paper as desired (figure C). Use triangle or chevron shaped punches to create page corners (if desired).
- To create the title block, hand print (or use computer font of choice and print onto plain cardstock) and center title in punch (figure D). Remember to flip the punch so that the bottom faces up. Center the title within the registration marks and punch. Add to page.
Hexagon Quilted Page Materials: Large Hexagon Punch Large Triangle Punch Variety of patterned paper 10" x 12" or 12" x 12" white scrapbook page 6 yards of white picot edge ribbon - 3/16" wide 1-1/2" yards of green ribbon - 3/8" wide Double-sided adhesive Acid-free glue 10 photocopies - Back photos and paper to be punched with double-sided adhesive.
- Use two shades of paper to punch 40 triangles. Then, punch 10 hexagon photos. Remember: flipping the punch so that the bottom is face-up will help you see where to punch (figure E). Center the photo in the registration marks for precise punching.
- Then, use hexagon punch to punch 10 assorted paper shapes.
- Affix all hexagons to scrapbook page. Leave 1/4" between all the hexagons.
- Next, place triangle shapes between the hexagons.
- Cross picot ribbon in "x" shape on all sets of triangles (figure F). Cut ribbon ends at an angle.
- Then, space narrow ribbon horizontally at the bottom of each row. Glue to sides of paper (edges will be covered in the next step). Then, glue matching ribbon around the top, bottom and sides.
- Finally, apply double-sided adhesive tape to back of green 3/8" ribbon and apply to top, bottom and sides.
- To miter corners, cut straight line through center where horizontal and vertical ribbons meet at the corner of the page (figure G).
