Spencer's vintage wedding dress was the inspiration for this project.

Designer Anne-Marie Spencer uses a stylus and vellum to create a raised page element.

    Materials:

    Mid-weight white vellum
    White gel pen
    Stylus
Mousepad (to be used as a work surface)
    Needle (optional)
    Dark or metallic gel pen

Tip: When working with stylus, start with a light touch to prevent tearing -- especially when working with vellum on a softer work surface, like the mousepad. Slowly increase pressure (as needed) to achieve the effect you desire. Keep in mind that the harder you press, the greater the raised texture and dimension on the front surface.

    1. First, select pattern to complement the overall theme of your page. Place vellum over the pattern and trace the design onto the vellum using the white gel pen (figure A).

    2. After ink has dried, flip vellum over and trace the back of the pattern with the stylus (figure B).

    3. Use the stylus to emphasize any embellishment -- such as these small dots -- that appear as part of the pattern (figure C).

    4. To add additional embellishments, a needle can be used. Simply poke the needle through the back surface (figure D). Tip: A small piece of screen (from the hardware store) can help keep the holes in uniform rows and columns.

    5. For titles, trace letters onto a seperate sheet of vellum. Use a dark or metallic pen to trace the outline, and fill in -- again, working on the back surface to raise the letters -- using stylus (figure E).
