Designer Lauren Johnston uses a variety of glitter products to create a dazzling birthday page.

    Materials:

    Dimensional glue
    Photo-safe, acid-free glue
    1/4" - 1/2" brush
Fine metallic glitter (dark red and black)
    12" x 12" light gray cardstock
    Red cardstock
    Black cardstock
    Ivory cardstock
    Canary Cardstock
    Birthday-themed die-cut shapes
    Die-cut letters
    Scissors
    Portable Paper Trimmer
    Photos
    Black glitter gel pen
    Wax paper
Chunky glitter glue (red, black and yellow)

    1. Begin layering birthday-motif die-cut shapes (in this example, a cake and mini-candles) and adhere together.

    2. Then, decorate the cake (or other birthday die-cut) using chunky glitter glue. In this example, glitter glue is used applied to resemble dripping cake frosting and to embellish flames on the candles. Allow product to dry thoroughly after application.

    3. Next, use 1/4" or 1/2" brush to apply dimensional glue (figure A ) to select die-cut shapes (here, candles and the cake plate) and die-cut letters. Working with a small area, apply glue and then sprinkle matching glitter (figure B) directly to the shape (. Let one area dry before moving on to the next.

    4. As glitter is drying, use paper trimmer to crop photos as desired. Double-mat using red, then black cardstock. Use photo-safe, acid-free glue to adhere mats.

    5. Use brush to apply dimensional glue to black mat -- working with one side at a time -- and immediately sprinkle with black glitter.

    6. When all picture mats have been embellished with glitter and all die-cuts have dried, adhere pieces to light gray page.

    7. Use chunky glitter glue to add desired words (figure C) -- for example, "Surprise!"

    8. Embellish page as desired.
