    Figure B

Dee Greunig suggests a crystal clear way to share vacation experiences with others: send a clear lucite postcard!

    Materials:

    clear acrylic postcard
stickers (at least two of each design to create "mirror" images)
    pencil
    adhesive-backed paper
    rubber stamp
    color pen
    craft knife
    paper in assorted colors
    vacation photograph

    1. First, use pen to ink area of stamp to be used. In this example, Greunig chooses a small rope border to complement her beach-themed photo.

    2. A picket fence sticker is the first layer added to the postcard. Tip:Keep longer stickers on the release paper and slowly roll them off as you apply to the postcard. This will prevent mistakes and wrinkled surfaces.

    3. To create sand on both the front and back surfaces, draw wavy sand dunes onto adhesive-backed paper and cut along pencil lines. Then, flip "dune" image over and place on another sheet of adhesive-backed paper (figure A). Trace along the dunes and cut mirror image from paper.

    4. Next, reduce and cut photograph to fit the border and postcard. Here, the photograph is trimmed so that the vacationer's legs will extend beyond the border stickers (the sand dunes and fence) -- as well as the surrounding frame (figure B). This makes the images pop by creating dimension and perspective.

    5. Apply stickers to the front and back. Apply carefully and slowly so that the chosen stickers are exactly the same from either side.

    6. Add an address label and take to your local post office for hand-metering.
