Making your own stamps is a surefire money-saver. Watch as Sandi Genovese creates a spiral stamp to decorate a background page!

Instead of buying pricey background pages, create your own! Sandi Genovese creates her own background designs with custom stamps made from self-adhesive rubber.

Instructions and templates may be viewed by using

    • Custom stamps can be created by layering self-adhesive rubber onto a stamp mount (figure A). The layers can be built up to elevate the motif away from the stamp, creating a cleaner impression.

    • Recycle household items that might ordinarily be tossed out -- like this old film canister -- into stamp mounts. Simply mount custom design onto the bottom of the canister and use a dauber duo to apply ink to the stamp surface (figure B).

    • To create subtle gradiations and patterns on paper, use a large stamp pad and Versamark ? ink. Simply apply the ink to a large stamp pad and press pad against stamp. Press stamp firmly with palms of hands (stand if necessary). Continue until the pattern has covered the desired area in a continuous design.
