Stickers with a delicate vintage look are the perfect complement to heritage photographs.

The pale pastel background page offsets the intricate design of the border sticker used at the page edge. A mirror-image sticker is adhered to the back to prevent it from sticking to the page underneath.

Andrea Grossman uses border stickers to create the look of lace trim -- a perfect embellishment for a heritage photo.

    Materials:

White or cream 12" x 12" scrapbook page
Pale neutral or pastel 12" x 12" scrapbook page
    Paper trimmer
    Stripe border sticker
    Mirror-image lace border
    Small paintbrush
    Baby powder
    Cardstock to match scrapbook pages
    Pen or marker for journaling
    Vintage photograph
Decorative stickers and mounting tape (if desired)

    1. First, use personal trimmer to trim 5/8" from right edge of white or cream page.

    2. Then, layer lace border sticker over stripe border sticker. Remove the two and apply tot he edge of the scrapbook page.

    3. Apply matching lace border sticker to cover the back of the first (figure A). Apply slowly and carefully so that details match.

    4. Use pale neutral or pastel scrapbook page to offset the lace border (figure B).

    5. Mat vintage photo on cardstock that matches the neutral or pastel scrapbook page.

    6. Adhere matted photograph as desired.

    7. Next, journal on a separate card or paper that matches the scrapbook page (rather than directly on the scrapbook page), to minimize mistakes or errors. Then, place journal card over a decorative card that matches the neutral or pale pastel page (Grossman uses a pale pink deckle-edged card to offset the white journal card.)

    8. Adhere cards to page.

    9. If desired, adorn the page with an image that mirrors an element in the photograph. In this example, Grossman attaches a sticker bow to a layered card to reflect the scarf worn by the woman in the photograph. Tip: Use small pieces of mounting tape to elevate the bow -- or other decorative sticker -- from the page.

    10. Once tape is adhered to back of item, apply baby powder to exposed sticker adhesive (figure C) around the mounting tape. (This will prevent these areas from adhering to layered accent card.) Remove backing from mounting tape, adhered to layered background card (figure D). Apply sticker and accent card to page.
