Sandi's tip: Use a computer program to print horizontal lines on the card for easier, straighter journaling.

When using a die-cut shape to reveal journaling, it's better to add a separate journaling card inside. The reason? A seperate card can be easily changed, instead of altering the entire page design.

DIY Scrapbooking host Sandi Genovese creates several page designs that include cleverly hidden journaling blocks.

    • For the "Double-Trouble" page, Genovese creates a folding die-cut shape that when open, reveals a color photo and subtle journaling. Genovese achieves the effect by first copying a color photograph onto semi-transparent vellum. The vellum was then layered over the journaling block.

    • The "Hearts and Flowers" page commemorates a special dance. The tuxedo die-cut is perfect place to hide journaling and adds to the overall theme. Genovese embellishes the tuxedo die-cut with silver pin-stripes and uses red die-cut triangles to create a bow-tie. The tuxedo "jacket" is opened to reveal the journaling card.
