Project by Tricia Morris.Looking for ways to use tons of photos on your next layout without cluttering your page? Tuck them into this ingenious envelope folio created in a matter of minutes. Youll have a fun, interactive embellishment that serves a very constructive purpose!
Materials:
12" x 12" "To You, With Love" red print
8-1/2" x 11" TYWL kraft companion print, red print, pink print
pink, red, kraft paper for mats and tags
TYWL red ink, tags, fibers
bookbinding glue and foam brush applicator
Club Scrap alphabet stamps
ten No.1 coin envelopes (2-1/4" x 3-1/2") *
Cloud 9 Designs HALOS button snaps
silver miniature brads
1/4" hole punch
bone folder
ruler
hook and loop tape
* In this case, we used 10 envelopes and 10 tags to fit our page theme of "Ten Things to Teach a Puppy." Adjust the number of envelopes used to fit your needs. Youll want to adjust your folio template to accommodate the thickness of the stack of envelopes.
1. Trim 8-1/2" x 11" red print to 10-3/4" x 6-1/2". Score with a bone folder and ruler as shown (figure A) to make the folio to hold envelopes (figure B). 2. Punch a hole into the center of each 1-1/2-inch flap at left and right, and attach button snaps. To close flaps, wind fiber around the buttons (figure C).
3. Prepare coin envelopes by cutting off the tops with a paper trimmer (figure D).
4. Use foam brush to apply a 1/2-inch strip of bookbinding glue or other adhesive to the center of the envelope, from top to bottom (figure E).
5. Attach envelope to second envelope, aligning them carefully. Repeat until all 10 envelopes are attached in a neat stack (figure F).
6. Use glue to attach the back of the stack of envelopes to the center of the folio, aligning the bottom of the envelopes to the bottom of the folio, right above the 3-inch flap.
7. Glue the 3-inch flap over the top of the envelope stack.
8. Measure and cut 10 card stock tags in pink, red, or kraft. Punch a hole at the top of each card and thread fibers.
9. Stamp, add photos and journaling to each tag (figure G) and insert into the coin envelopes.
10. Position 8-1/2" x 11" kraft over center of 12" x 12" red.
11. Add a 12-inch banner at the top of the page anchored with button snaps.
12. Cut letters for title from pink print paper.
13. Mat and attach photo; add journaling below.
14. Attach red frame with silver brads and write title for small envelope book into the frame.
15. Attach the envelope book with hook and loop tape so that it can be removed and enjoyed.
Tips:
Adjust the size of your envelopes to the size of your project. You can make a small "brag book" for a purse or a large gift album with this technique.
The key to being able to expand the coin envelope book is to place glue into the center of the envelope only!
Using ink to edge the title letters and tag will cause it to jump off the page without having to go the extra effort of adding an additional mat.
