  • From "Special Presentation"

    Figure A
    Project by Rebecca Ludens.

Adding glitter to wire can really take your words up a notch. I will focus on how to attach wire words using brass brads and then show how to apply different colored layers of glitter to the words. This same technique can be used on wire embellishments such as spirals, and other shapes (figure A).

    Materials:

    The Paper Loft paper
    ScrapArts silver mini brads
Artistic Wire 20-gauge nontarnish Silver wire
Art Institute Glitter red, white and blue glitter
    Beacon GemTac

    1. Make words by hand or using a jig such as The Wire Writing System (figure B).

    2. Adhere words to page using mini brads.

    3. Carefully apply glue using a toothpick to just the surface of the wire, and only on the top third of the wire letters. Liberally sprinkle glitter over wet glue (figure C).

    4. Tap paper over container to remove loose glitter.

    5. Repeat with more glue and additional colors until all three layers of color are completely covering the wire (figure D).
