    Figure A
    PHOTO

The crumpled paper in Figure A was used in this layout.
Project demonstrated by Paulette Jarvey, designed by Susan Cobb; reprinted from Making Designer Scrapbook Pages.

Altering is a fun way to create your own artsy scrapbook pages. You can tear, ink, crumple or sand paper (figure A) to achieve the look you want. Try it on background papers, photo mats, tags and slide mounts. In this project, you'll distress paper using direct-to-paper inking and chalking techniques, plus learn how to create faux-texture backgrounds with an ink pad and Magic Mesh.

    Figure F
    1. Place strips of Magic Mesh randomly over the yellow daisies, blue with white flowers, and blue diamond papers.

    2. Brush walnut ink onto the papers over the mesh so a mesh pattern emerges on the paper (figure B).

    3. Cut a 9" x 11" piece of yellow daisies paper and tear one long edge.

    4. Chalk the edges of the paper (figure C).

    5. Place this piece on the blue diamond background paper, positioning it on the left side of the page.

    6. Cut a 6" x 6" piece of blue with white flowers paper; tear two edges.

    7. Chalk edges with brown, as above.

    8. Mat on yellow card stock and chalk edges with brown.

    9. Place at the center of the page, about 3 inches from the bottom.

    10. Cut out the long white and gold embossed paper charm and the small white and gold embossed shipping tag charm.

    11. Apply Magic Mesh and walnut ink to them just as you did for the paper, above.

    12. Place the large oval tag on the right side of the page as shown.

    13. Cut a narrow strip of blue with white flowers paper and mat it on yellow card stock. Place it across the page horizontally. Place a yellow fiber on top of the strip, securing it with a brad at each end (figure D).

    14. Mat your photo on blue vellum and attach to the center of the page.

    15. Journal on blue vellum, tear edges, and add to bottom left corner of the page (figure E).

    16. Journal on yellow card stock. Glue words behind the brass label holder, onto a gold round embossed tag, and at the bottom of the oval tag.

    17. String fibers diagonally across the page top, tying the brass label holder and tags onto the strands.

    18. Trace around four flowers from the remainder of the yellow daisies paper using gold ink (figure F). Cut them out, trimming around the gold edges, and attach them to the page as shown.
