    Project by Tricia Morris.

Customizing your paper to your photos will not only save you money and time, but it will make a better visual impact. You can transform your paper with direct-to-paper or stamp-to-paper techniques, and customize everything from texture to color. Transform a plain sheet of paper into just what you need to make a fabulous layout!

    Materials:

    2 sheets each: 12" x 12" plain olive, 12" x 12" plain green, 12" x 12" light kraft
    Culinary Kit fibers and tags
    Asian Artisan stickers
    Asian Artisan unmounted images
ColorBox fluid chalk autumn pastel inks
    Marvy Southwest corner punch

    1. Trim light kraft paper a half-inch larger than all photos.

    2. Use the autumn pastel petal point pad to apply ink directly to the paper. Begin with the lightest yellow and work your way to dark green. Brush the petal point of ink from a sheet of paper protecting your work surface onto the mat using light, even strokes (figure A).

    3. Prepare a 12" x 2" strip of light kraft paper with the same direct-to-paper technique.

    4. Add alphabet stickers for page title.

    5. Prepare a tag and a small matted box by adding journaling and images from the Asian Artisan unmounted stamp collection.

    6. Rub ink over the tag and artwork to coordinate with the other page elements.

    7. Matte all page elements with green plain paper and finish with fibers.

    Tips:

    1. You can choose any ink color to coordinate precisely with your photos!

    2. Experiment with dye and pigment inks.

    3. Use a stamp of any texture to create different looks to your entire sheet of paper (figure B) or small elements on your layout.

    4. Try rubbing embossing ink directly onto your background paper using large, sweeping strokes with the pad. Sprinkle embossing powder in the color of your choice and heat. Repeat after page cools to add additional colors. You can also blend your embossing powders to coordinate with your layout.

    5. Transfer these same paper altering techniques to greeting cards and other paper craft projects.
