Today's digital technology gives croppers more control over their photography than ever before! Sandi Genovese, host of Croppin' USA, talks with digital photography expert Jill Krieger about manipulating photos to create the perfect shot. In this demonstration, Krieger uses the Kodak Easy Share DX4300 zoom digital camera, a model with features that can be utilized by both beginner and advanced croppers. The camera comes with a dock and software that makes photo manipulation and output easy. The Kodak Easy Share camera comes in three ranges: - CX series - an entry-level point-and-shoot digital camera
- DX series - a snap-and-shoot camera with creative controls
- LS series - has a sleek, high-tech appearance, marrying style with technology
Here are a few of the advantages digital photography provides: - The ability to share your photographs with others using digital methods
- The ability to zoom in for the shoot you want, while maintaining clarity
- Use of memory cards allow for storage expansion
- Software that can be used to correct red-eye, enhance color, crop or change color formats (i.e., black and white to sepia)
- The ability to print at home, submit online to a photo lab, or put on a CD-rom or disk
- Preview capability
Regardless of what type of digital camera a cropper selects, the same criteria for good photography applies to both traditional and digital methods: - Fill the frame with the subject, but avoid centering
- Use flash when subject is backlit and to add depth and sparkle to the subject in bright daylight.
- Candid shots -- rather than posed -- always provide the best photographs.
- When photographing scenic shots, include something in the foreground to provide depth
- For visual interest, look for curves and geometric shapes as focal points
- Use a tripod for accurate, consistent and stable shots
