Beautiful pink and green paper fringe surrounds this adorable sepia-toned baby photo. But the layered fringe isn't the only interesting design element on this page ...

... the "hinged" photo opens locket-style to reveal additional heirloom photos. Handmade paper bows embellish the edges of the page and provide a finished look.

Anna Griffin uses a variety of papers to create a textured photo frame. Although a selection of papers from Anna Griffin Decorative Papers was used in this example, the design and color palette of your choice will work just as well.

    Materials:

    5 sheets AG212 (8-1/2" x 11" floral paper)
    1 sheet AG003
    1 sheet AG031
    1 sheet AG013
    1 sheet AG-16
    1 sheet 12" x 12" chipboard
    Craft knife
    Adhesive
    Ruler
    Oval cutter
    Cutting mat

    1. Trim AG031 to 8-3/4" x 8-3/4" and adhere to center of green AG003 paper.

    2. Cut chipboard to 8-1/2" x 8-1/2" and cover with sheet of AG013. Adhere covered chipboard to center of AG031.

    3. Cut large oval (approximately 5-5/8" x 6-5/8") from sheet of AG212 paper.

    4. Cut a smaller oval (approximately 4-3/4" x 5-3/4") from AG016 paper.

    5. To make fringe, snip all away around the oval at every 1/16" of an inch. Repeat technique for both ovals.

    6. Use fingers to curl snipped edges upward.

    7. Adhere two sheets of AG212 back-to-back. Next, fold the two sheets in half horizontally. Cut an oval (approximately 4" x 5") leaving an inch on the left side of the oval. The two ovals should remain joined and form a "hinge."

    8. Adhere ovals to center of page. Layer largest fringed oval on bottom and end with hinged oval layered on top.

    9. Crop 3 photographs and adhere to the hinged oval locket (figure A).

    10. To create the bow border, cut (28) 3/8" strips from remaining AG212 paper.

    11. Match two of the strips -- one longer and one shorter. Apply adhesive to both sides of one end of the longest strip. Adhere strip together end-to-end (figure B). Pinch the loop that is created together in the center to form two smaller loops. Repeat technique for smaller strip.

    12. Place smaller loops on top of larger loops and bind together with another strip of paper (figure C). Make 12 bows to create the entire border.

    13. Adhere remaining strips to AG013 center square, leaving a 1/2" border.

    14. To create die-cut accents, cut small flowers from remnant of AG212 and place at corners of inside border.

    15. Handwrite or laser print journaling. Adhere journaling to the bottom center of the page to complete.
