Photo weaving is a great way to add dimension and texture to your pages -- as well as a unique look to your photographs -- as Dallas host Michele Gerbrandt demonstrates.

    Materials:

Two photos -- one black and white, one color
    Craft knife
    Cutting mat
    Photo-safe pencil
    Metal ruler
    Scissors
Grid transparency marked in 1" grids

    1. Place color photo face down on the transparency grid and secure with removable tape.

    2. Use the photo-safe pencil to mark 1" vertical lines (figure A) across the long side of the photo (use the grid and a metal ruler to draw straight lines).

    3. Number the strips along the back of the photo (figure B), then draw a horizontal line 1" from the bottom of the photo.

    4. Place the black and white photo on the transparency grid and draw 1" horizontal lines across the back of the photo. Mark the strips with letters to distinguish between strips from the color photo.

    5. Cut apart the strips of the black and white photo (figure C) using the craft knife, metal ruler and cutting mat. For the color photo, cut vertical strips just to the horizontal line, leaving the bottom of the photo uncut (figure D).

    6. Turn color photo over and begin to interweave black and white strips. Starting at the bottom, begin weaving black and white strips over and under the strips of the color photo. Repeat -- alternating the over and under pattern -- until you reach the top of the color photo.

    7. Cut the bottom of the color photo into vertical strips -- along the lines drawn on the back of the photo. Weave the final black and white strip along the bottom of the color photo (figure E).
