The tie is left exposed for a rustic, unfinished look.

Buttons make a delightful accent idea for baby-themed pages or pages with a rustic look. Here, Michele Gerbrandt shares this idea -- adding button accents without sewing -- while on location in Dallas, Texas!

    Materials:

    Buttons
2 coordinating colored papers to match the buttons (one light, one dark)
    Thread
    Glue dots
    1-1/4" square punch
    1" square punch
    Pen
    Scissors

    1. Punch a 1-1/4" square from the darker paper, then punch a 1" square from the lighter paper.

    2. Adhere the lighter square on top of the darker square.

    3. Use pen to draw "stitch" marks around the outside edge of the lighter square (figure A).

    4. Pull thread through the button from the back side to the front.

    5. Tie off thread in a double-knot and cut thread (figure B) with scissors -- leaving a short piece as a "bow" on the button front.

    6. Adhere the button to the layered paper squares using a glue dot. (For easy application, touch the back of the button to a glue dot and then lift the glue dot from the strip.)

    7. After adhering the button, anchor the button and squares to the page as desired.
