In this segment, Chris Chianelli flies the Hobby Zone Fighterbirds from Horizon Hobbies as well as a stealth-bomber replica.
Fighterbirds (TM) and Sonic Combat - With the two Fighterbirds ready to fly, Chianelli and his opponent launch the two aircraft (figure A) -- each equipped with a sonic gun potentially capable of disabling its enemy.
- The guns are controlled by the throttle switch on the transmitter (figure B) and can shoot high-frequency sound at an opponent during midair combat.
- The radio receivers are designed so that a firing plane must be within about 50 feet of its opponent to be able to achieve a hit.
- If struck by a sonic blast, the target plane emits a shrill alarm, and its propeller stops turning for about 10 seconds -- potentially causing a crash.
- If the stricken plane has achieved sufficient altitude, the operator may be able to pull off a last-minute save before the plane hits the ground (figure C).
Mega-Stealth (TM) Park Flyer The Mega-Stealth by Megatech is modeled after a US Stealth Bomber (figure D ). It comes already assembled, and the kit includes a radio and charger. The only assembly necessary is the installation of rubber wing protectors that are taped on. This super-fast park flyer is capable of impressive speeds and flying stunts (figure E).
In the segment that follows, Chianelli takes a look at an assortment of extreme RC models.
