With assembly complete, the StormCaster (TM) rocket is ready for launch.
Launching Procedures and Safety Precautions
- Choose a big, open field with no nearby houses, power lines, trees, or any other obstructions.
- Safety Alert: When launching a rocket, make certain that you are at least 15 feet from the launch pad, and make sure all spectators are at least 30 feet away.
- Insert the engine into the engine-mount (figure A) until the retaining hook catches the end of the engine (figure B).
- A conductive nichrome wire (figure C) is used to engage the engine and initiate launch.
- Following the manufacturer's instructions, place the nichrome wire into position in the engine. Insert it as far as it will go.
- Place a plastic plug into the bottom of the engine to hold the nichrome wire in place (figure D). Spread out the ends of the nichrome wire.
- Lower the rocket onto launch stand (figure E), making certain the guide rod slides through both launch lugs.
- Tie off ignition wires to the launch pad (figure F) so the clips won't pull on the nichrome wires during launch.
- With the rocket on the stand (figure G), attach one alligator clip to each end of the nichrome wire (figure H).
- A safety key is required for launch. This is a safety feature that prevents accidental or premature launch. Insert safety key into the launch controller (figure I).
- Press both launch keys simultaneously to initiate launch (figure J). At the apogee of it's flight, the recovery parachute should eject, allowing the rocket to drift slowly back to earth (figure K).
Once you've gained some experience with beginner level rockets like this one, you can move on to more advanced models with additional features.
