The most extreme of all extreme radio control aircraft are the RC jets, powered by real miniaturized jet engines and actual jet fuel. These scaled-down versions of actual military fighters and test planes are capable of speeds between 230 and 280 mph.
The accomplished hobbyists who pilot these sophisticated (and expensive) mini-rockets (figure A) have generally had years of experience at flying RC model planes. They are the "top guns" of the RC hobby.
The models utilize small jet turbines (figure B), functionally identical to those in actual full-sized jets, enabling them to achieve remarkable speeds and flying precision -- even performing aerobatic Blue Angel-style flying maneuvers.
They are built out of high-tech materials such as Kevlar (TM) to help them maintain stability and structural integrity at high speeds. Many are are exact and accurate scale replicas of real fighter planes such as the T-33 Airforce trainer, the F-86 and the famous F-4 fighter (figure C).
