In this episode of DIY's Radio Control Hobbies, host Chris Chianelli introduces viewers to parking lot racing. All you need is a parking lot, some traffic cones, some corner markers and you’re ready to go. Chris shares some tips on several ways to make infield and outfield track using PVC pipe and 1x4 boards. Also featured are two of the more popular RC cars in both the electric and nitro classes: The Tamiya Subaru XB Pro and the Kyosho FWO5T. Chris also demonstrates how to install adjustable tie rods.

    Materials for constructing race track:

    Traffic cones
    Corner Markers
    Lap Counting system
    Laptop computer
    RC cars

    Prepping the Racer

    • Take RC car out of box and place on work table. Refrain from pulling in the pull start.

    • Remove the glow plug using a 4-way wrench.

    • Remove the air filter.

    • Place 3 drops of After-Run oil down into the piston--where glow plug was (figure A).

    • Place 3 drops of After Run oil into the carburetor (figure B).

    • Gently pull on the starter to help distribute the after run oil throughout the motor.

    • Replace glow plug with 4-way wrench.

    • Choose good quality fuel with nitro methane of 15-20 percent.

    • Fill the fuel tank using filler bottle (figure C and D).

    • Make sure the glow charger has fresh batteries.

    Starting the Racer

    • Place finger over the exhaust and pull starter. Ha a friend turn transmitter on and apply full throttle. This pressurizes the muffler, which, in turn, pressurizes the fuel lines.

    • Place glow igniter onto glow plug (figure E).

    • Pull starter to start engine.
