In this week's Handyman Hints segment, host Paul Ryan shows you how to clean paint rollers, remove dirt with tape and use an old roller to clean gutters.

    • If you have a roller that's been soaking for a while and most of the paint is off of it but it's still wet, a great way to dry it is to give it a spin cycle. Simply attach the roller mechanism to a drill, put on the felt roller pad and turn on the drill. Be sure to lower the pad into a bucket (figure A) while it's spinning or you'll have a wet mess. The nap will be fluffy, dry and ready for another wall or ceiling.

    • If you get any dirt, debris or fuzz on roller and you don't want it to transfer to the paint, all you have to do is wrap some masking tape around your hand -- sticky side out -- and pat around the roller to remove the debris (figure B).

    • If you have a roller that's too dirty to use anymore, don't throw it out. You can still use it to clean the gutters on your house (figure C). The roller is angled enough so that you can just slide it along the gutter (using an extended handle, of course) to remove the debris and leaves.
