    Exterior Paint and Siding

    Tips:

    • Plan to paint your windows and doors early in the day so that by nightfall they will be ready to close.

    • A finishing dip in lacquer thinner will remove any residue left on brushes by mineral spirits or paint thinner.

    • Preparation is the key to a long-lasting finish. Before beginning an exterior paint project, check for damage in moisture-prone areas such as around window and door frames and near gutters and downspouts.

    • Wood siding used indoors should be brought inside at least two days before installation. Allowing the wood to acclimate will minimize movement later on and provide a better surface for the application of finish.

    • When cleaning your siding, start at the bottom and work your way up. Attacking the dirt a little at a time in this manner will decrease the occurrence of unsightly water stains.

    • A fine toothed blade installed backwards in your circular saw will allow you to cut vinyl siding with ease.
