To create egg art, most beginners need only a glue gun, paint and costume jewelry for embellishment. Marina Degtjarewsky prefers using goose eggs -- which are larger, more versatile and easier to work with than hen eggs.

Marina Degtjarewsky's dazzling art is so intricately detailed, it's hard to believe each piece is actually an egg. She started very simply by learning Ukranian egg design, then graduated to detailed cutting and decoration. Here she shares her method for creating a hinged egg: - First, to remove the contents, Degtjarewsky uses a grinder to make a small hole in the top and bottom of the shell. Then she inserts an instrument with a needle and a bulb into the smaller hole to blow the egg out of the shell.
- Next, she washes the shell inside and out with water and vinegar.
- She marks the egg and adds a hole for the hinge.
- Using a grinder, she cuts along the markings, then adds the hinge and paints the egg.
- Finally, she adds finishing touches -- more paint, embellishments, etc. -- to complete the egg.
