These two boxes were done with the "masking tape" process.

    Zig Zag Box (Rubber-comb technique)

    Materials:

    Wooden box
    Combing tool (figure A)
    2 colors of paint
    Paintbrushes

    1. Paint the box one solid color.

    2. Wait for it to dry completely.

    3. Paint a thin layer of the second color over the box.

    4. Drag the combing tool over the surfaces of the box in a waving motion.

    5. Stop when you're happy with the look of the box.

    Tip:

    • Have fun with the combing. If you don't like the look that you get you can always paint over your combing and try again.

    Checkered Box (Masking-tape process)

    Materials:

    Wooden box
    Masking tape
    2 colors of paint
    Paintbrushes

    1. Paint the box one solid color.

    2. Wait for it to dry completely.

    3. Tape the box in a checkerboard pattern.

    4. Pressing down, rub your fingers over the tape to make sure that it is really going to make a tight seal against the other color of paint.

    5. Paint the taped box with the color of paint you haven't used yet.

    6. Wait for the paint to dry completely.

    7. Gently peel the tape off.

Products: All of the materials for these crafts can be found at a craft store.
