What People Are Saying About DIY ....
  • MASTER LUTHIER DESIGNS LOS LONELY BOYS' CUSTOM ELECTRIC GUITARS ON DIY NETWORK’S HANDMADE MUSIC

  • Knoxville, Tenn. – June 2006 – Top-notch musical instrument designer Kelly Butler faces the ultimate custom guitar challenge on DIY Network’s upcoming one-hour special Handmade Music: Los Lonely Boys. Premiering on Sunday, July 16 at 7:00pm ET, Master Luthier Butler handcrafts two custom guitars for multi-platinum selling sibling-trio Los Lonely Boys.

"One of the things we do here at First Act is that we will do a ‘full-on’ custom piece," said Butler. "We’ll do just about anything. As opposed to most companies who make a ‘version’ of something they already make, we like to say there is a difference between ‘custom-made’ and customized. So that is our signature; the fact that we will do custom-made ‘full-on’ from the ground-up instruments."

Handmade Music: Los Lonely Boys takes viewers through the step by step process of building two custom electric guitars for the Grammy winning trio, Los Lonely Boys. Butler, award winning luthier from First Act Guitars, consults with the band to design each guitar, then demonstrates how to select the wood, cut, carve, and assemble these masterpieces.

When Butler asks why Los Lonely Boys would want "another" guitar, Henry Garza replies, "I’ll give you the perfect answer?because guitars to us are like CANDY! You can’t get enough of candy."

His brother JoJo Garza compares getting a new guitar to that of his current bass. "I’ve got a couple of other basses, but I mostly never really play anything else, but that bass. And if we can get that kind of thing out of this bass that you all are going to make then I’ll probably put this one on the shelf."

Handmade Music: Los Lonely Boys reveals why a custom built guitar is a sight and sound to behold during the band’s tour. While performing in Asheville, N.C., the new custom-made guitars were presented to the Garza brothers. Henry is impressed with the craftsmanship of his new First Act guitar, "This is definitely going to be on stage with me everywhere I go, man."

Encore presentations of Handmade Music: Los Lonely Boys are also scheduled to air at 7pm ET on Saturday, July 22; Sunday, Sept. 10; and Saturday, Sept. 16.
