Kristine Hanson has turned a hobby into a passion, blending a love of television with her fervor for gardening. As a master gardener, she loves digging through all things green and growing, and sharing that information with those around her. Kristine extends that one step further by hosting her own gardening show.

Kristine grew up in Sacramento, Calif., where she received her degree in communication studies and theatre arts from California State University Sacramento. She then pursued a degree in meteorology from San Francisco State University.

Her studies in meteorology led her to gardening. Kristine received her master gardener certificate from UC Davis in Northern California, and immediately put it to work. Extending beyond home gardening, Kristine was the director of horticulture at the Ceago Vinegarden in Mendocino County. There she managed the habitat breaks, oversaw planting and tended a lavender garden, which was distilled for aromatherapy products, and sold as fresh and dried flowers. While in Mendocino County, Kristine even spent time as a sheep rancher.

Kristine's broadcast career has taken her from KCRA in Sacramento to KGO, KTVU, and KRON in San Francisco, and on to ESPN where she reported, anchored and color commentated for many sporting events. She won an Emmy® Award and a first place award for American Women in Radio and Television.

In addition to conducting landscaping and gardening seminars, she stays busy helping people perfect the art of gardening as a guest on various radio shows and writing for different magazine Q&A columns.

DIY Network's series, The Dirt on Gardening will take full advantage of Kristine's passions in broadcasting and gardening, and allow her to share her extensive knowledge with DIY viewers everywhere.
