Crafter and designer Cathie Filian has been thinking and acting creatively since she can remember. Growing up in the Midwest, she spent most of her time designing elaborate homes for Barbie dolls, sewing her own clothes and baking perfect cookies. It was no surprise to her family years later when she received the Outstanding Senior Design Award from Ohio State University. After graduation, Cathie moved to Hollywood, creating costumes for such movies as Vanilla Sky, Rushmore and several others. She and her friend and creative partner Steve Piacenza met on a film set and in 2001 opened a store across the street from Paramount Studios. Seven Ten was an eclectic boutique and art gallery that showcased new artists and crafters as well as Cathie's and Steve's own personal handmade items. They taught crafts to hip Hollywood types, who would come by and hang out with the craft and design experts making unique projects in the backroom of their colorful, lively store. Today, armed with the rewarding experience of teaching enthusiastic craft junkies a few new tricks, the two have turned their attention toward inspiring viewers with Creative Juice.Want more great tips and ideas from Cathie Filian?
