Materials: Frame Fabric/material Foam core Thread and needle Brown craft paper Pinking sheers Framers gun/point gun or small tacks Safety glasses (if you use a point gun) Straight pens Right angle Craft knife Pencil Antique of choice - Measure the length and width of the back of your frame and cut the foam core to size.
- Cut fabric at least 1" larger than foam core. Wrap fabric around foam core and pin it in place; then attach it with a needle and thread (figure A). This is just to help secure the fabric in place.
- Position antique on the fabric and mark it with straight pens (figure B) on both sides. Push the pins all the way through the foam core to the back side. Remove the antique and turn the foam core over and remove the pins. Push the needle and thread through one pin hole in the back (figure C) and then place your object on the front of the material and sew it in place (like sewing on a button). Keep sewing the object in place until you are satisfied with the security of the thread and then pull the needle and thread through to the back and knot the thread off.
Note: You want to sew the object instead of gluing it so that you do not damage the antique, keeping it archival safe. - Place foam core back into frame.
- Using point gun (figure D) or small tacks, secure foam core in place.
- Measure and attach a piece of brown paper to back of frame.
- Hang and enjoy.
