    Figure C

Michael Basler, of the Home Decorating Institute, offers a contemporary yet elegant way to mount special photographs for an expensive "gallery" look.

    Materials:

    8" x 10" artist's canvas (prestretched and primed)
Latex wall paint in light color
    Smooth 1/4" pine lath
Small craft miter box and saw
    Acrylic craft paint
    1" frame or finishing nails
    Hammer
    Sawtooth hanger
    Glue
    Rubber bumpers
    Acid-free, archival double-sided tape
    Photographs

    1. Paint canvas with latex paint and allow to dry thoroughly.

    2. Using small miter box and saw, cut 2 pieces of lath to 8" and 2 pieces to 10-1/2" (figure A).

    3. Use acrylic paint (using a home accent color) to paint lath strips and allow to dry.

    4. Use small nails to secure 8" lath strips to sides of canvas, and repeat with 10-1/2" strips. Center the longer strips on the canvas so that 1/4" overlaps and covers edges of side laths (figure B).

    5. Glue sawtooth hanger to center of back of canvas frame.

    6. Secure self-adhesive rubber bumpers to back of frame to prevent scratched walls (figure C).

    7. Apply double-sided tape to back of photograph.

    8. Press photo onto canvas and use soft cloth to eliminate fingerprints and smooth surface.
