  • Seashell Mirror
  • From "DIY Decorating & Design"
    episode DID-131
    advertisement

Nancy Golden shows how to make a beautiful seashell mirror to enhance your home's beach decor.

    Materials:

Framed mirror (we used a whitewashed frame with a beaded border)
    Seashells (collected or purchased)
    Glue gun and glue sticks
Paper and tape (for shielding mirror)
Spray paint (in a light, beach tone)
    Imitation pearls

    1. Place shells around the frame until you find an arrangement that pleases you. In our example, heavier shells such as scallops or starfish were placed at the corners. When you are satisfied with the design, hot-glue the shells in place.
    2. After the shells are in place and the glue is dry, protect the mirror's surface by taping paper (brown paper or newspaper work well) in place.
    3. Spray-paint the shells, applying the paint in light coats until covered to your satisfaction.
    4. Remove tape and paper. If you wish, glue faux pearls at random around the frame to add shine to the flat, painted surface.
