Garden color doesn't have to be bright -- it can also come from silver, gray, and even green foliage. One fine example is dusty miller (figure A), with its silvery leaves. If you do choose to grow dusty miller, though, make sure to cut off its flower spikes so the plant doesn't get ratty-looking after it blooms. Other plants with silver and gray foliage include dianthus, carnation, pepperomia, sage, and even fescue grass. A white-blooming plant with dark green leaves, such as cyclamen, makes a beautiful contrast for plants with gray or silver foliage.
